Hello, friends!

In addition to welcoming our new editor Sarah Lazare, we've also welcomed a new Senior Associate Editor, Isabela Escalona! Isabela began working with the Labor Education Service and Workday Magazine in 2022. She grew up in Oak Park, Illinois and earned her B.A. from Macalester College in St. Paul in International Studies. Isabela worked as a Communications Organizer at Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en la Lucha (CTUL) in Minneapolis for three years. Along with her professional work, Isabela has a shared art studio in St. Paul where she works on short films, photographs, and other artistic projects. She enjoys watching movies, reading, bike rides, hiking Minnesota’s beautiful landscapes year-round, exploring antique stores, and spending time with loved ones.

Last week, nurses rallied in front of the U.S. Bancorp headquarters in downtown Minneapolis before marching into the lobby, and then marched to the lobby of Wells Fargo. Several board members of their hospitals are also board members at U.S. Bank. This action came after the three day strike in September that garnered a lot of media coverage.

Union nurses are rallying in the lobby of U.S. Bank to call on executives Tim Welsh, Jodi Richard, and Jeff von Gillern (who sit on hospital boards) to support pay increases and higher staffing levels for nurses. Chants of “who gonna flip your grandma?!”
